NULJ was created in 1987. In 1996 membership numbered 105 libraries, accessing 436 journal titles. NULJ now comprises many more members and well over a thousand journal titles. Originally a paper catalogue, the NULJ database is now online making the listings easily available. The list is regularly updated to ensure currency and accuracy.
Prospective members should be prepared to supply at least 10 titles with holdings covering at least 3 years. They are encouraged to offer as many titles as possible as this makes the scheme work most efficiently. They are also encouraged to include titles that no other library in the scheme holds and to include the current year of holdings if possible. It is acceptable to include all of your library journal holdings. We welcome journals covering all aspects of medicine and healthcare.
There is annual membership fee for NULJ which supports the administration and work of the NULJ system done throughout the year by the team at UHL Libraries & Information Services. The membership fee is based on a sliding scale so that libraries who offer more journals as part of the scheme pay less. The NULJ subscription year runs from January to December.
All libraries undertake to share their resources freely and to respond quickly to requests. No payment is made between members for document supply.
